I volunteered at the World Swimming Championships
The FINA World Shortcourse Swiming Championships took place at the Manchester Evening News Arena on the 9th-13th April 2008.
With a total of 18 world records broken in five days of competition, the 9th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) were the fastest and most successful ever.
Kate Hansbury from Cumbria Sport Partnership, Lorna Postlethwaite and Beth Wadsworth from Lancashire Sport Partnership are all volunteering at the event.
Kate took time out to tell us about their experience.
"I was lucky enough to volunteer at the Fina World Short Course Swimming Championships at Manchester from the 6 – 9th April.
My role was as a Team Liaison Officer, I had to inform and look after the teams. The duties I performed included meeting and greeting my allocated teams from the airport, transporting them to the hotel, checking them in and informing them of all their training session times, giving them tours of the MEN Arena and generally making sure they had everything they needed.
It was probably one of the best experiences of my career…….the management of the volunteer team led by Linda Freeman was excellent and you really felt part of a team. We all ‘buddied’ up and supported each other in different roles. We were given specific kit to wear which also made you feel part of a team as well as being briefed everyday.
The whole experience was amazing, getting to meet new people including top world swimmers, celebrities, and people from the same profession as me."
