Welcome to the Cumbria Golf Partnership (CGP), a joint venture between the Cumbria Union of Golf Clubs (GUGC); the Cumbria Ladies County Golf Association (CLCGA); representatives from the NorthEast/West PGA; Golf Foundation; the English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women's Golf Assocation (EWGA) and Cumbria Sport.
This website will keep you up to date with regular events/fixtures in the CGP calendar and also news and development plans within Cumbria and how you can get involved in golf.
The start of 2009 brings in exciting new golf initiatives from the CGP. On 12th January 2009 the first of what will be a regular fixture in our Cumbria Professionals' diary, the Cumbria Coaches Network Breakfast Club. The inaugural meeting will focus on the work being undertaken by the CGP Club & Coach Steering Group and the process in which they can apply for one of the four academy coach positions (see Club & Coach).
Two Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshops have been arranged for the end of January/first week of February. These essential workshops are an extremely useful way of obtaining more information about child protection, give you the ability to ask questions and gain advice about specific issues that you may have encountered in your work with young golfers. Useful for those volunteers/members of the club who have regular contact with the junior section and also essential for anyone interested in obtaining their PGA Level 1 Coaching Certificate. See Workshop section for further details and how to register.

In 2008, the Cumbria Union of Golf Clubs (CUGC); Cumbria Ladies County Golf Association (CLCGA) together with representatives from the North East/West PGA; English Golf Union (EGU)/English Women's Golf Association(EWGA); Golf Foundation and Cumbria Sport joined together to form the Cumbria Golf Partnership (CGP).
2009 onward: The Partnership will see an exciting approach to the development of the game in Cumbria as local knowledge; experience and resources are combined and shared by local golfing organisations working together as a team.
Through this joint approach Golf in Cumbria has greater potential to draw in external support in particular through Sport England and Cumbria Sport. This approach is integral to England Golf Partnership's vision to “Grow the game” and The English Golf Union's vision to make England the world's leading golf nation by 2020.
The English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women's Golf Association (EWGA) along with Sport England have allocated The Cumbria Golf Partnership a minimum of £54,500 to devise and implement a structured development plan for golf in Cumbria over the next 3 years. The plan consisting of three main sections ‘Start', ‘Stay' and ‘Succeed' will cover all aspects of the game from grassroots participation through to elite county squad players.
The EGU/EWGA has submitted plans to Sport England for the next period of funding ... 2009 to 2013. Confirmation of the funding which has been awarded to golf is expected shortly.
