Canoeing
If you're on the look-out for an action-packed sport and don't mind getting wet, canoeing could be perfect for you.
The BCU (British Canoe Union) is proud to announce that canoeing is the UK’s biggest participant water sport for the 5th year running!
Canoeing provides a great exhilarating physical workout and is much about skills as it is about strength.
EQUIPMENT
There are two main types of canoes - the Canadian and the kayak.
Canadian canoes can be used for both flat water and slalom racing, and are paddled from a kneeling position using a single-bladed paddle.
Kayaks are propelled from a seated position, using a long, double-bladed paddle. They also have a rudder for flat water racing.
GETTING STARTED
If you want to get into canoeing, get in touch with British Canoe Union. They'll put you in touch with your nearest club.
Canoeing is an excellent activity for the whole family, and a great sport to try during the summer holidays.
