What is Equality and Diversity?
![]() |
Sports Equity is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to all members of society irrespective of their race, gender, age, religion, ability, sexual orientation or economic status.
Sports equity is about fairness in sport, having regard for difference, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. Sports Equity is about taking action to ensure that all people realise and fulfill their potential, at what ever level they aspire to.
Research shows that certain groups within our communities are often under represented within sport and physical activity, both in terms of their participation levels and the infrastructure. It is acknowledged that to achieve equity in sport and physical activity we need to:
§ Take account of the needs of different groups or communities within a given priority group.
§ Adopt the recommended practices of equal opportunities and managing diversity.
§ Address issues of fairness in the workplace and the way in which services are allocated and delivered.
§ Acknowledge and respect diversity.
