Disability Sport

Disability Sport is an inclusive element of the work of the CountySports Partnership.  The aim being to ensure that people with physical, sensory and learning difficulties have equal access to sport and physical activity across Cumbria.  

Cumbria Sport Partnership believes that everybody should have the opportunity to participate in sport, whatever his or her ability. Cumbria Sport Partnership is dedicated to improving the access to sport and physical activity for all disabled people within the Cumbria region.

Cumbria Sport Partnership is working with partners to create an equitable sporting environment for all its members. Access to facilities and services are at the forefront, in addition to the access to quality coaches and a safe environment. In conjunction with this Cumbria Sport Partnership appreciate that Sport is also a tool that can unite communities, through the Equality Standardour aim is to help combat prejudice and discrimination that many disabled people experience.

Cumbria Sport Partnership works with partners to ensure disabled people have the same opportunities to participate in sport and physical recreational activity in schools and in the community as non-disabled people. i.e. sport in education, sport in the community and performance sport in Cumbria is open and accessible to disabled people.

The Cumbria Disability Sport Association was established in 2006 to develop sport provision for people with a disability in Cumbria.  The Association, in conjunction with other partners, co-ordinates the development work areas outlined below.
