SPAAs

SPAAs are Sport & Physical Activity Alliances within our six local authority areas and will be the mechanism for identifying and prioritising initiatives for sport and physical activity at a local level.

These alliances form an important part of the Delivery System for community sport and physical activity in England, as established by a national policy initiated by Sport England.

SPAAs will:

  • Be a group of local 'deliverers' pulled from a range of relevant organisations and sectors;
  • Influence and develop policy and strategy for the delivery of sport at a local level based on a robust local needs analysis;
  • Build local capacity to increase participation;
  • Widen access to sport and physical opportunity opportunities for local communities;
  • Develop a locally shared vision with buy in from the key partners including the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP);
  • Provide Local Strategic Partnerships and Local Area Agreements with a mechanism to work with and through sport and physical activity;
  • Secure resources from a broad range of sources;
  • Focus on building capacity to increase participation;
  • Identify local needs and potential interventions, and feed up to County Sport Partnerships.
