Next year England Squash are hosting a National Charity Squash Week in the lead up to the World Championships which are being held at the National Squash Centre in Manchester in October 2008.
As a launch pad to next year’s Charity Week, England Squash will be holding a number of events, not only to promote our nominated charity Whizz-Kidz, but also to profile their fantastic sport to the general public, especially at club level.
Whizz-Kidz is a registered charity, which provides customised wheelchairs, tricycles and other specialised mobility equipment, as well as information and advice, to change the lives of disabled children across the UK. With a motorised wheelchair, children have the ability to move around independently and enjoy their freedom, enabling them to live full and active lives with their friends and families.
Ultimately, independent mobility enables disabled children to experience the everyday things that many able-bodied children take for granted -independence and freedom changes a child’s life, literally overnight.
The aim of England Squash between now and the final day of the Charity Week in October 2008 is to raise enough money to provide 6 children with motorised wheelchairs! With each wheelchair costing £7500, this is quite a task, but they are sure with YOUR support, they can achieve the target, and as a result, will have such a positive effect on 6 young people’s lives.
The first fundraiser, which is a series of Exhibition Matches across England in October involves top National Players playing in front of you, the target audience, providing you with a Squash spectacle, whilst raising funds for Whizz-Kidz.
Carlisle Squash and Rackets Club is the venue for the North West’s Exhibition Match on Friday 12 October 2007 (7.00 - 9.00pm) between Jenny Duncalf and Laura Lengthorn, both World Ranked Top 15 players. Ticket prices are £10 per adult and £5 per child (Under 16).
Your co-operation with this event is paramount. England Squash are sure that with your support, the match will be a sell-out providing a massive boost to the fundraising efforts and bringing us one step closer to enhancing the lives of 6 young children.
It will give the general public the chance to see and recognise Squash as a World Class Sport, whilst also bringing national recognition to the hard work that Whizz-Kidz carry out daily.
Tickets can be purchased from Ronnie Bell the Club Manager at Carlisle Squash Rackets Club on 01228 539689. Payment by cash, or cheques made payable to Whizz-Kidz.
Did You Know that the England Squash Women’s and Men’s Teams are the current World and Commonwealth Team Champions; with 2 women and 3 men in the World Top Ten Rankings, and that Squash is a “Top Ten Priority Sport”!
