Sport England’s North West Regional Sports Board has been further strengthened by the appointment of new members:
Peter Stybelski Chief Executive, Cumbria County Council
Chris Brindley Director, Natwest and RBS Group
Fran Cotton Former England Rugby Union captain and British Lion; founder of Cotton Traders
Jack Carney Senior Vice Principal, MANCAT ( ManchesterCollege of Arts and Technology)
Peter Ackerley ECB Head of Development
Peter Mearns Director of Marketing for the North West Development Agency
The Board members begin exercising their responsibilities for sports funding, strategy and promotion in the region from November. All will share their sports, business and education expertise and experience and will work to support community sport as well as ensuring a 2012 legacy in the North West. Nationally Sport England’s ambition is to get 2 million people doing more sport by 2012. In the North West region this means over 250,000 more people into sport. The Regional Sports Board members are leading champions of community sport and the drive the increase participation in the North West.
Andy Worthington MBE, Chairman of the Regional Sports Board says: ‘It is great news for sport in the North West that people of this calibre, experience and commitment are working with us to develop sport in the community. All our new Board members bring new insights into the power of sport and will help inform decisions on funding and promoting sport across our region.’
Other members of the board include Olympic swimming champion Stephen Parry.
