It’s official! Cumbria now has the best running events in the UK, thanks to two of the races in the increasingly popular Lakeland Trails series.
According to the 2007 UK race ranking list, recently published by national magazine Runnersworld, last October’s Puma Trailfox Coniston Trail Race is the best race in the UK achieving a perfect 100% overall score (all races 15+ votes). Last April’s Puma Trailfox Hawkshead Trail Race (97%) also tops the UK listings for larger events, beating the London Marathon into second place (races with 100+ votes). Races are rated independently by competitors according to organisation, value for money, scenery, beginner-friendliness and atmosphere.
Other races in the Lakeland Trails series to feature in the UK Top 50 Races overall, were :
10th Puma Trailfox Derwentwater Trail Race
12th Puma Trailfox Ullswater Trail Race – also the best new race for 2007
41st Puma Trailfox Garburn Trail Race
The national successes of the Lakeland Trails have caused an unprecedented demand for entries to all the events this year. The first of these, in Hawkshead on 19th April, has already reached the 1000 entry limit in record time, and the organisers are closing all the senior 15km entries on 14th February.
