Great Britain Baseball players Richard Klijn (18), James Pearson (17) and Ben Pearson (16) recently returned home from the European Junior Baseball Championship Qualifier tournament held in Eskilstuna, Sweden. They were runners up – defeated by just one run in the final by Belgium.
Richard was awarded the ‘Best Player in Tournament’ prize. He particularly impressed with his pitching performance against Austria which GB won 14-13 in a hard fought 10 inning game which put the team through to the final.
James Pearson (catcher) played a solid game for GB against Sweden and Ben pitched superbly as reliever under much pressure against Belgium despite being the youngest on the team - a talent to watch for the future.
All were a credit to their South Lakes club, Cartmel Valley Baseball club, which developed their talents for the game over many years.
James and Ben are grateful for the support they received from SLDC in their preparation for the tournament.
To add to the clubs success, they have just been chosen as the venue for the 2008 National Youth Baseball Finals on 13/14 September!
For more information on how to get involved, or if you would like to support this even contact club coach Jonathon Pearson on chair@cartmelvalleybaseballclub.org.uk or visit the teams website at cartmelvalleybaseballclub.org.uk/.
