Rocky 1

The Original Rocky

'Rocky' departed for South Africa on 21st November 2003 with Cumbria (1) County Council's Policy Officer Jean Pennie.

On Friday 19th December we received photos of the rucksack in South Africa (2) at the Cape Agulas the most southern point of Africa, and the one with the penguins was taken at The Boulders.  The bag is now on it's way to Trinidad (4) , watch this space to see where it goes next.

On Monday 1st March we had a postcard from Don Orloff who had taken the bag on a cruise around South America, from Valparaiso, Chile around Cape Horn, north to Buenas Aires, Argentina. The postcard was sent from Stanley in the Falkland Islands (5).

On Tuesday 9th March we received the following e-mail:-

'WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN YOUR BACKPACK WHILE WE WERE IN SOUTH AMERICA AND ANTARCTICA AND DID TAKE SOME PICTURES OF IT THAT MIGHT BE INTERESTING FOR YOUR SITE.  WE PASSED THE PACK PACK ON TO AN ARGENTINA ORTHODONTIST WHO PROMISED TO KEEP THE LEGEND GOING.
CHEERS, TAYLOR AND MARSHA'

On Monday 15th March we received the photos from Taylor and Marsha with the bag in Antarctica (6) along with a postcard and a letter from them.  Brrr! It looks cold!  The note Marsha and Taylor sent said, "We took your bag with us to Antarctica (6).  We received it from our friends Susan and Dan Orloff who had received it in South Africa and took it to Long Beach California (3) and then to South America.  We in turn left it with our friends in Cordoba, Argentina (7).  We hope it now travels to another exotic place.  What a nice project, hope it continues to travel."

Who knows where it will go next?

After the success of our 'Send a Cumbria Sport Bag Around the World' project we received offers to take one of our bags to be photographed at other famous World Landmarks.  On Monday 16th February we had photos sent from Australia - here is one of our bags sailing under Sydney Harbour Bridge and visiting the Australian Open Tennis tournament (A).

We also had a photo of our bag sent from the Ski Club in Cyprus - bet you didn't know there was a Ski Club in Cyprus!!! (C)

These are photos of the bag on a trip to Canada. The first is in front of Union Station with the CN Tower - the tallest free standing structure in the world, in the background in Toronto, and the second is from the balcony of the Sheraton Fallsview hotel at Niagara Falls (B).

In June 2004 we received this photo of the bag on holiday in The Gambia (D)

At the 2nd Annual Coaches Conference at Shap Wells Hotel on Sunday 4th April 2004 we also persuaded cricketer Graham Gooch and Olympic 4 x 400 metre silver medalist Mark Richardson to have their photo taken with our bag.
