Rising Stars 2006

Jordan Clark (Cricket)

Jordan Clark has excelled in his chosen sport of cricket. He has represented Cumbria at U15 level as well as representing the North of England. He was selected to attend England Squad winter training, and was subsequently selected to play for England U15 in summer 2006.

Sebastian Crookall-Nixon (Golf)

Sebastian reduced his handicap in 2006 to 3.9, meaning that as a 12 year old he had the lowest handicap in the UK. He won the HSBC National Championships for 11/12 year olds and was invited to meet and play with Tiger Woods at Wentworth. He was runner-up in the English Golf Union Reid Trophy for 13 year old Boys which are open to international entrants. He was the U16 County Champion, and represented Workington Golf Club in the CountyMen’s Scratch League. He represents the County at U16 and U21 level, and represented the North of England at U16 level this season and has been selected for 2007.

Lauren Smith (Badminton)

Lauren had another outstanding year in 2006 in her chosen sport. She represented England in the Swedish Open in Malmo winning the Mixed Doubles Event and was a member of the England U17 team who finished 4th in the Danish Junior Cup. She won the senior County Championships Singles for the previous 2 years and she won all 3 events at the 2006 Cumbria Open Competition.

Kate Farley (Orienteering)

Kate was a member of the Ulverston Victoria High School Junior Girls Team that represented England at the World School Orienteering Championships in 2006. She finished 2nd in the Classic (long) Race and 4th in the sprint race out of 80 competitors. She was chosen for the World Class Start Programme as one of 7 young people in England, Scotland and Wales.

Thomas Walker (Cycling)

Thomas is breaking records in the world of cycling. He broke the U16 & U18 club records in 2006 in the 10 and 25 mile time trials. He has won many open age events and finished 9th in the British Cycling Time Trial for U18’s and finished 6th overall for British best All Rounder at U18 level. This led to him being selected for the British Cycling Olympic Talent Team.
