Active Cumbria Week

Active Cumbria

Cumbria Sport Partnership is currently running an ‘Active Cumbria’ campaign, which includes a monthly sport and physical activity supplement in five newspapers throughout the county, as well as a dedicated website that holds information on activities throughout Cumbria, a clubs database, events calendar and advice on how to get active.

The newspaper supplement is running in the News and Star, Westmorland Gazette, Whitehaven News, North West Evening Mail and the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald.

To build on the success of the supplement and to encourage more people to get more active, more often, Cumbria Sport are running an ‘Active Cumbria Week’ during the second week of August 2008.

Activities that are on during this week will be promoted through each Active Cumbria newspaper supplement, as well as on the Active Cumbria website. We are proposing to produce an events list in each paper, and may produce vouchers for participants to use to gain access to a range of activities that are running during the week. This could be organised walks or bike rides, holiday sport schemes, fitness classes, sports club events, sport competitions etc.

We would like to include a range of activities for different ages and abilities. Some activities will be free, others will have a charge, but all will be activities that are already planned for the week of 11th-17th August 2008. To encourage more people to become more active, we would also like to offer some discounted activities, and are currently working with local sports providers/Leisure Centres to offer participants some reductions on activities.

We would like to include details of as many activities as possible in our ‘Active Cumbria Week’ promotion. If you have any activities that you would like to promote through 'Active Cumbria Week', please contact Amy Clement on 01228 221263, email amy.clement@cumbriacc.gov.uk.
