Cumbria 2012 Training Camps

18th June 2008

In Cumbria three sports venues have been identified as potential training camps for athletes competing in the London 2012 Games. They are: The Sheepmount in Carlisle, Kendal Judo Club and Hoops Basketball Centre in Barrow.

These venues all appear in the official LOCOG Training Camps Directory launched at the Games in Bejing this year. Each of these venues provide excellent sports facilities, and are currently developing plans to target teams of athletes who may come and use our facilities in the run up to the games.

Recently a delegation from the North West which included advisors Don Parker, Kevin Hickey and Rob Young were taken on a tour of these facilities by Cumbria Sports Director - Eddie Edge. The group met with the operators to advise and provide support in attracting National Olympic Teams to come up to Cumbria to make final preparations for the 2012 Games. The main messages from the day were about the whole of the community and local business getting behind these venues and putting together an attractive package to entice teams to Cumbria.
