Why I became a Board Member
It is important for both CLL and the partnership to have a balanced view of the issues facing us. We bring a wealth of knowledge around delivery of sport and recreation, which can only be of benefit and add value to ensure outcomes.
What difference would you like to make on behalf of Sport and Physical Activity in Cumbria?
I hope that we are able to make a difference by ensuring the strategic aims are delivered on the ground through our portfolio of facilities and services, especially more people more active more often.And to assist in shaping the way forward from the ground up point of view.
Experience
50 years of participation in sport both at local level and international level (athletics) as well as over 35 years in management of sport, facilities and operations.
Your interest in Sport and Physical Activity
I have participated in various sports including athletics, basketball, volleyball, squash and golf since I was 12 years old.
I have coached basketball, volleyball and athletics at club level and managed football and basketball teams.
I ran for GB and set UK record for 1,500m in 1972 with a time of 3min 38.8 secs.
I have represented the navy and combined services at basketball and volleyball.
I completed Lyke Wake walk and thecoast to coast bike ride in last ten years.
Other Information
I am now reduced to hacking around a golf course off handicap of 20 (dodgy) and general keep fit/gym!
