What difference would you like to make on behalf of Sport and Physical Activity in Cumbria?
To help Cumbria build world class facilities, host national and international events and help to develop world class athletes.
Experience
Archie is an experienced business development executive who has had a distinguished career with regional development agencies.
He managed the Cumbria office of the Northern Development Company office for 6 years in Cockermouth before the formation of RDA’s and retrenched back to Newcastle to work for One Northeast for 4 years as Senior Business Development Manager and subsequently a successful Senior Executive in attracting inward investment from China, Korea and India.
His role now in Cumbria is working for Invest in Cumbria with the major companies who generate the economy of the county and manages their “aftercare programme” for inward investors and indigenous businesses.
Your interest in Sport and Physical Activity
Archie played amateur football for Whitley Bay in his younger days as an athletic flying left winger and continued playing for an “over 40” club in the North East until he broke his leg.
His final game was played on the pitch of St James park wearing the No 9 shirt Black & White of Alan Shearer in a charity match against the House of Commons football team in 2003.
He interspersed this with an athletics career completing over 27 marathons and 10 “Ultra-marathons” including the 54 mile London to Brighton race.
His was a long distance athletics coach and has represented England in the last Leningrad marathon in 1991 which is run through the “white night” of June 21st and competed in the World Veteran’s Championships @ 10,000 metres.
Archie has a career of organising athletic events and organised the “Ney York Marathon – North Tyneside”, The Geordie Run and was “Coarse Director” of The Blaydon Race, which is always held on the 9th of June.
He founded the Whitley Bay “Christmas Pudding Race” which is still going strong since 1986.
Archie has considerable volunteering experience in athletics events and holds an NVQ level 2 in Crowd Control.
